Before I share with you the “Easy messy bun knit pattern”, let me share a bit of how I became a knitter.
When I first moved to Oregon, I had quite a bit of “free” time. Because I had to wait on paperwork from Immigration, I couldn’t work. I didn’t drive at the time, and we lived about 6 miles from the closest town. I spent most of my time watching TV and trying to find a hobby that I could keep up with and not be bored.
Knitting became one of those hobbies. I learned how to knit by watching my mom when I was little. I was probably 6 or 7 years old. Between my sisters and I, we had a handmade sweater in each and every possible color. My mom loved knitting, I was always amazed at how she could knit one sweater after another in no time. One day she let me try it, she taught me how to cast on, knit and purl… before I knew it I was knitting myself. Excitement doesn’t even begin to describe it!
Fast forward to this “free-time” I had, I decided I should start knitting again… my husband took me shopping. I got a set of 6US needles and some yarn. I picked that size because I remembered my mom always called them the “easy needles”. And I started knitting… haven’t stopped since.
I have gone from scarves to hats and sweaters to dishcloths and blankets. I have also followed patterns from books and magazines, I even created my own. Knitting is one of my “mental breaks”, many times if I feel worried or stressed and I can’t run… I knit.
